Curated Denver: A City Guide for the Creative-Minded Traveler

“Hey, I’m coming to Denver for a few days. Any recommendations for places to check out?”

Who hasn’t heard this? As a designer, our friends and family rely on us to hear about the cool spots they probably can’t find on the regular tourism lists.

*CURATED ENTERS STAGE LEFT*

Curated, an iPhone app (Android coming in 2015), is a collection of great places to check out around Denver. Categories range from coffee shops and restaurants to galleries and architecture, the kinds of spots you’d want to know about if you were spending time in a new city. And, we hope, some new favorites for the locals.

Here’s a whistling and ukulele backed demo video to give you a taste of the app:

In a way, Curated is the anti-Yelp; you won’t find hundreds of places you don’t care about. Every location was specifically hand picked by AIGA Colorado members. A quick bit of info about the location is complimented by a snippet on why you, a creative-minded person, should check it out. For example, the snippet for Root Down says: This converted auto garage is a feast for designer eyes and taste buds. Check out the wall in the party room behind the hostess station. The content is truly curated, and can be updated on the fly to reflect the changes in local offerings.

Curated has locations grouped into categories, but also has a way to filter by neighborhood. So if you’re planning on spending time in Cap Hill, you can isolate those spots to see what will be within walking distance. Have favorite places or planning a trip and want to bookmark them? Tap the “heart” icon to save it to your favorites.

What’s next?
Currently a Denver only guide, we’ll be approaching AIGA chapters in other cities in 2015 with the goal of creating an app unique to their community. If you have suggestions of where we should park our horse next, shoot us an email and let us know.

Collaboration
Artletic, the company I created, handled the design and development effort for Curated. I’m proud of my team for the hard work and many months spent picking up new skills. But we didn’t do this alone; we also worked hand in hand with a great team of people from AIGA Colorado to refine the concept, brainstorm features, and ultimately make this app a reality (peep the “Local Curators” list inside the app for a shout out). Without their awesome content, Curated wouldn’t exist.
