Craftwork Recap: Comedy and Calligraphy

Craftworks June event was Calligraphy & Comedy. The event was held June 2 at Battery 621. Evette Goldstein, founder of Pretty Writing, led a session on developing basic calligraphy skills. The event wrapped up with a live performance from 10 comedians, and the participants executed several quotes from the comedians using their new calligraphy skills.

At the end of the event, Evette said she was impressed by the level of skill that the participants showed. The comedians were all really excited to receive their words in the form of an art piece. One of the participants asked if we would be repeating this event in the future.

Overall, I think the event was a success. Many people were interested in connecting with the comedians they were paired with and vice versa. The AIGA participants walked away with a new skill and some basic supplies to keep practicing, while the comedians walked out with something tangible as a thank you for participating.

Some kind words from one of the people who attended the event:

“That was a fun workshop. It had all the elements that I think all workshops should have – I learned something new and was challenged to put it into practice and no matter how bad the outcome I wasn’t judged.”
