Speaker Recap: Louise Sandhaus

A California Design History Story

Louise Sandhaus is a curious artist and an explorer of the history of California graphic design. She spent 10 years digging, designing, and writing to answer the question, “What is California graphic design?”. Louise spoke of this unique design segment with great passion and confidence – a confidence that spoke for the unknown art that California displayed. As she put the stereotypes and clichés behind her, she investigated California design. With no model or “digital index” to refer to, most of these 10 years were spent building a history that had remained lost in its era. Louise created a rare structure for this type of book: an actual story. And it’s a beautiful story to read. Through the trials and errors she faced, she radiated a sense of creative freedom and her love for California design.
