Speaker Bios

Shirin Chahal

Shirin Chahal’s journey into the legal profession began rather unconventionally. After an early career in the music industry booking tours for bands and then working at a major publishing company in Los Angeles, she changed course and moved to Colorado to become a lawyer. Today, Shirin’s legal practice serves a wide range of small business owners, but still includes those in the creative industries (artists, photographers, songwriters and filmmakers). Although her passion is copyright law due to her creative background, Shirin also counsels her clients on general business matters such as entity formation, contract drafting and negotiation, real estate, and tax law.

Shirin serves on the board of directors of the Boulder County Arts Alliance, is a speaker and volunteer attorney with Colorado Attorneys for the Arts, and is a regular volunteer attorney at the Boulder County Bar Association’s free legal clinics. She lives in Nederland and loves the mountain lifestyle.

Dave Rein

Dave Rein, following a career litigating complex commercial and intellectual property cases at one of the country's largest 100 law firms, joined Erickson Kernell IP, a boutique intellectual property law firm. There, he counsels businesses and creative individuals throughout the country on how to obtain, license, and protect their intellectual property.

He is also an adjunct professor and frequent speaker on intellectual property issues. Dave holds a number of positions with the ABA's Intellectual Property Section and he is the co-chair of the Rocky Mountain chapter of the Copyright Society. He is also very involved in the community as a board member for the 40 Wests Arts District, a speaker and volunteer with the Colorado Attorneys for the Arts, a volunteer assisting entrepreneurs through Mi Casa, and a board member of the Advisory Council for the City of Lakewood.
