Morning Brew: The Inequities of Gender in the Arts

Join AIGA Colorado for our virtual Morning Brew Series! It is more important than ever to stay connected so join us for a short 30 minute presentation from industry professionals regarding the topics of health, the future of design, or community.

Now the Good Stuff....

Join Angela Astle, Executive Producer and Founder of Colorado’s Athena Project as she discusses the current state of gender parity in the arts.

Athena Project is the Colorado nonprofit that celebrates and nurtures women’s artistic expression, working actively for equality of opportunity, recognition and pay based on artistic merit alone. Since 2012 Athena Project has successfully brought the work of women artists to a broader audience through innovative programming and partnerships. Explore the different factors that play into the cyclic nature of gender nonparity in the arts. Unlike many other disciplines, women are well represented in degrees of design, writing, theatre, visual arts and dance; yet once they leave educational institutions they don’t reach director level positions at the same rate as men. We are in a critical time in history as women are leaving the workforce at unprecedented rates. We have to act now to actively recruit and support women in reaching their professional goals.

  • Connections with other like-minded creatives
  • Women are under-represented in many creative sectors
  • Learn ways to seek out and support women artists in your community
  • Understanding and breaking the cycle of the lack of representation
